About this site
We built the disability insurance resource we wish existed when we needed it.
Why this exists
Most disability insurance information online is written by people trying to sell you a policy. The guides read like brochures. The numbers are vague. The real questions people have go unanswered because honest answers sometimes make the product look worse.
We started Disability Insured Today because we went through the process of buying disability insurance ourselves and found the experience frustrating. Every site had the same recycled talking points. Nobody would tell you what a policy actually costs for your age and occupation. Nobody explained the contract traps that show up at claim time. Nobody mentioned that your employer's "free" LTD plan might replace less than 40% of your income after taxes and offsets.
So we built what we wanted to find. Every guide on this site answers a real question with real numbers. No affiliate links, no commission-driven recommendations, no "contact us for a quote" bait.
How we research and write
Every article goes through a six-stage process before it reaches the site. This is not a formality. It is the reason our guides contain numbers, contract language, and state-specific details that most insurance sites skip.
We start with the actual question people type into Google, not a keyword tool suggestion. We check that no existing page on the site already answers it.
We pull every fact, figure, and claim from the ten pages currently ranking for the query. We record the source of each number.
Forums, comment threads, and review sites tell us what the ranking pages leave out. The complaints and surprises people share after filing a claim are usually the most valuable material.
We compare what the top results cover against what real people actually need to know. The gap between those two is usually the reason the article exists.
Every claim in the article traces back to a source in the research dossier. We derive calculations openly and label them as such. We do not state researched prices as our own.
Before publishing, every figure gets traced back to its source. Any number we calculated is shown with its inputs. The style, structure, and internal links are reviewed for accuracy.
Our editorial principles
- Every number has a source. If we state a figure, we know where it came from. If we derived it, we show the math. We never carry a number from memory or present a guess as research.
- We write at a tenth-grade reading level. Insurance is already complicated enough. We explain every term the first time it appears and avoid jargon when a plain word works.
- We cover what makes the product look bad. If a policy type has a serious drawback, we say so. If employer coverage has a hidden tax trap, we explain it. Omitting the downsides would make our guides no better than the sales pages they replace.
- We update when things change. Insurance rules, state laws, and market pricing shift. When they do, we update the guide and mark the revision date. Outdated guides are worse than no guide.
- We do not give personal advice. We publish educational content. We are not licensed insurance agents or financial advisors. Our guides help you understand what questions to ask, not which policy to buy. Consult a licensed professional before purchasing any policy.
